Tree Placement and Root Pruning
Image 4
Ideally, the best and safest time to create a grove is late winter or early spring. Some deciduous trees, like trident maples, can be trimmed and potted during the late spring and early summer months. In order to place your trees close together, some heavy root pruning and defoliation will be needed.

After root pruning into a shallow root pad, the main trees can be placed. Generally speaking, the tallest trees should not be centered in the middle of the pot.

After main tree placement, the next largest size can be arranged. Try to avoid having the tree trunks cross one another.
