Acer BuergerianumSubmitted by: Adam Counts Common Name(s):Trident Maple Background:Common street tree's and have a brilliant autumn color,usally orange to deep red. Sun:Trident Maples will do well in full sun but be sure not to let the soil dry out or the leave tips will burn. Shelter from hot summer sun in the afternoon. Temperature:Do well outside until long periods of frost, then bring into a garage or shed till the hard frost has past. Watering:Does not like any hint of dryness. Keep soil evenly moist at all times. Keep soil moist but not wet in winter. Training:Pinch out new shoots to two sets of leaves. Wiring can be done but be careful as not to break the shoots. Fertilizing:A well balanced fertilizer from bud burst to late summer followed by a low nitrogen or zero nitrogen fertilizer. Rapeseed works real well during the growing season. Repotting:Every 1 to 3 years. The thick roots can be fine pruned all the way till the trunck if needed. Use standard mix or akadama Propagation:hard and soft wood cuttings,and air layer's work real well. Pests/Diseases:Pretty much pest free. Additional Comments:A good beginner tree.
