Pyracanthasubmitted by Alan L. Comstock Common NameFirethorn Background:There are some tropical imports from the Philippines. They can't take freezing. Sun:Most are kept outdoors. Even though they are outdoor some keep them as indoor plants. Temperature:Tropicals-Indoor / Hardy/Tender-Slightly below freezing Watering:All species-Let the first 1/2" dry. Watch plant for signs of over watering. Char: Dry leaves indicate a root problem(most likely lack of oxygen-over watering) Training:Slow growing. Good for broom style. Clip and grow. Responds as a die back(Almost Ginko like). Twigs snap easily. Fertilizing:Growing months, even for tropical. Light winter watering.
