Firethorn

Background:

There are some tropical imports from the Philippines. They can't take freezing.

Sun:

Most are kept outdoors. Even though they are outdoor some keep them as indoor plants.

Temperature:

Tropicals-Indoor / Hardy/Tender-Slightly below freezing

Watering:

All species-Let the first 1/2" dry. Watch plant for signs of over watering. Char: Dry leaves indicate a root problem(most likely lack of oxygen-over watering)

Training:

Slow growing. Good for broom style. Clip and grow. Responds as a die back(Almost Ginko like). Twigs snap easily.

Fertilizing:

Growing months, even for tropical. Light winter watering.

Repotting:

Before shoots appear; young trees every 1-2 years, older trees every 5 years.
