Ulmus parvifoliaSubmitted by: Jeff McKnight Common Name(s):Chinese Elm Background:Native to China. Grows up to 65ft tall in nature. Has been cultivated for countless years because of their miniature form and attractive branching. Leaves are oval, crenated leaves that have a fresh green colour. Sun:Indoors thoughout the year at a bright, even sunny location (any window will do, east, west, north, or south facing.) Temperature:Can withstand temperature variations Watering:Water thoroughly in summer, leave to dry out slightly, and so on. In winter it depends on location, keep moist/dry at least. Training:Branches may be pruned at any time. Allow new shoots to develop eight leaf pairs, then trim back to two or three. Wiring at any time once they become woody. Fertilizing:Every two weeks between spring and autumn using a liquid bonsai food. Feed every four to six weeks during winter Repotting:Every two years at the beginning of SPRING along with root pruning. Propagation:Easy, seed, or cuttings (woody, or Green) Pests/Diseases:Dutch Elm diseases is not a threat. Additional Comments:The bark gets more attractive with age and tends to peel off.
