| Choosing a Bonsai |

SitingCarefully consider the conditions you will be providing when purchasing a bonsai for yourself or for someone else. If you have little or no outdoor space, for instance, an indoor variety such as ficus would suit you better than a hardy outdoor pine. Also think about how much care you will provide for it. Outdoor or Indoor?Outdoor trees such as junipers, elms and maples should be kept outside year-round. They may be dispayed indoors for periods up to two or three days, but these trees cannot survive indoors and should not be displayed indoors more than once a month. Indoor trees such as ficus and arboricola cannot be exposed to temperatures below 40 degrees. These must be brought indoors during the winter, but may be placed outdoors in summer. With proper lighting and humidity, tropical bonsai can be kept indoors year-round. Here is a list of popular trees for bonsai and the basic conditions they require:
