| Bonsai Pots |
|
| The best bonsai pots must accomplish several
tasks. First, they must be large enough to contain sufficient soil for your
trees' roots. Second they must provide drainage holes and small feet or
an elevated base to encourage good drainage. And finally, they must be pleasing
to the eye.
Bonsai pots are available both glazed and unglazed, with shiny or matte finishes and in a variety of understated colors. Shapes can vary from square and rectangular to round, oval and even lotus (an embellished oval). A few even include a small pocket for a tiny reflective pool of water. Traditional esthetics suggests the "two thirds" rule: either the pot length should be two thirds the height of the tree, or the height of the tree should be two thirds the length of the pot. (Immature trees may need to grow into their pots and so may bend this rule a bit). Also, for mature trees, the height of the container should be about the same as the thickest part of the trunk. Most importantly, your bonsai pots should please you. Choose colors, textures, shapes and sizes that compliment your trees and look attractive in the location where you'll display your bonsai. Brussel's Bonsai pots have been selected and imported by us from Yixing,
China, an area renowned for its fine quality clay and skilled craftsman.
We use these same pots for our own trees. |
