most influenced by John Nakas books, the teachings of Mas Imazumi,
Dennis Makishima, Kathy Shaner, and Boon Manakitivipart and the photographs
and drawings in Japanese bonsai magazines. Jim moved to Sonoma County
in 1995 to establish Deer Meadow Bonsai Nursery where he grows bonsai

Marco Invernizzi

1997. Marco then began an apprenticeship with the renowned Masahiko
Kimura at his garden in Inamachi, Japan. His bonsai creations have
won the UBI Award and many more have appeared in major bonsai magazines
in both Europe and America. Marco is now a full time bonsai artist
and travels around the world styling trees, teaching, and learning.
In 2003 an Italian editor will publish Marcos first book focusing

Martin Schmalenberg
Marty is the director of Asian Studies at Blair Academy in New Jersey.
He has been involved with bonsai and stone appreciation for over 25
years and has traveled extensively in Asia. In addition to being a
fantastic bonsai artist, Marty has been designing and building Japanese
and Chinese gardens for the last 15 years. He has collected, researched
and written extensively on the Pitch Pine (native northeastern Rigida).
